Our life at present revolves around our baby daughter and trying to allocate time every weekend to hike as many miles as we possibly can, to our family and friends this seems insane but they have never experienced the highs and lows in one day as is possible with a good hike.
We weren’t always obsessed with hiking, a relative in 2012 read a book about the Camino de Santiago and told us about “a walk in Spain” which changed our lives. We did a tiny bit of research and bought the cheapest hiking gear we could find and then booked flights to Spain to try to walk part of the Camino. For our first experience of the Camino, we walked over 350kms from Leon to Santiago and got totally hooked on hiking, telling tales, singing songs, meeting amazing people with the best stories that cannot be found on the internet.
At the end of our first Camino, we got engaged in Santiago and eventually got married in 2015 with a hiking/Camino inspired wedding. On our pre-honeymoon, we went hiking for 30 days around the Tour du Mont Blanc and hiking the remaining Camino de Santiago.
Our daughter was born in November 2016 but we didn’t let this hamper our hiking exploits, we just set ourselves some Irish hiking challenges. We are currently midway through Ireland highest points challenge, which requires us to walk every high point in every county in Ireland. We take turns carrying our daughter in her Deuter hiking rucksack, so far her highest summits are mount Leinster 796m, Lugnaquilla 925m, and Croke Patrick 764m.
We started sharing our pictures on Instagram and our blog was a natural progression from there. If you like our content or are planning to hike in Ireland with a baby and want advice feel free to message us, we will try to point you in the right direction.
Ourlittlehiker 2022 Update
After a slow Pandemic with only local updates, we now have a family of 3 little girl hikers. Our oldest is now a confident able little hiker that is able to hike most mountains without additional carrying from us. Our 3-year-old daughter still likes to explore herself but is very fond of being carried. Our 1-year-old daughter loves being in her Deuter carrier and viewing her sisters leading the way on the trails.
